From small business owners to us…How do I budget for online marketing?

Small business owners keep asking “How do I budget for online marketing?” I’d like to take a stab at answering this.

You must first decide what is success to you. You need to do your homework and find out what your competitors are doing and what they think success is online. You need to see how much or how little you need to develop and how often, including your web site, your social media prescence, all relative content, online promotions, creative, and most importantly time. Why do stress time because it is efficient time that needs to drive efficient results. You need to give yourself ample time to see results and enough of a budget in direct response media, if you plan to go that way. The key is to have a budget and have time. If you want to spend as little as possible, expect small results. Investing in the right way upfront can lead to truth growth of an online business. When I hear that a small business owner wants to spend as little as possible , not be involved , but wants big results I ask them if they would tell their husband/wife that they want them to do all the housework and they don’t have to lift a finger and see how that goes over – probably not good! Online marketing can do wonders for your ROI, but you must be willing to invest appropriate time and interest.
